Welcome to Here in a Year!  You are about to embark on one of the most amazing journeys of your life.  If you will commit to seeking growth and genuine transformation as you work through this material, a year from now, your life as you know it will be unrecognizable!

Here is how the site works.  At the top of the screen are three categories: basics of the faith, personal growth and resources.  Clicking “basics of faith” will open a page that will give you access to videos, articles and additional resources which will help you to establish foundational habits for growing in your faith.  Videos are only 3 – 7 minutes long.  On the left side of the page you will find a synopsis of the video and points to consider after viewing the material.  These points are meant to stimulate personal reflection and/or discussion with friends and/or small groups.  Also on the left hand side of the page you will find related resources (i.e. videos, articles, etc.) enabling you to choose your own path along your topic of interest.

The following playlist is an example of a particular path you might choose by starting in the “basics of the faith” section.  Let’s say you wanted to develop the daily habit of spending time with God.  First start at www.hereinayear.com  website(site home page).  Click ‘basics of faith”.  Click “videos”.  Click “establishing a daily quiet time”.  Watch video and reflect on points to consider (perhaps writing your thoughts in an online or hard copy journal).  Click and watch “overcoming distractions” and reflect on points.  Click and watch “the power of God’s word” and reflect on points.   Click and watch “how to get the word in” and reflect on points.  Click “read through the New Testament in a year”.  Click “week one”.  Click “monday”.  Click “Matthew 1” and read that day’s reading on the online Bible that opens up or download a pdf of the reading plan to keep in your Bible.

Sample Playlist 1

Home Page-> Basics of Faith-> Videos
  • Establishing a Daily Quiet Time (Video)
  • Overcoming Distractions (Video)
  • The Power of God’s Word (Video)
  • How to Get the Word In (Video)
  • Read Through the New Testament in a Year (Online Bible Study)

Now go back to the home page (click the “here in a year” icon on the top left corner of the page) and put your cursor over the “personal growth” category and the following sub-categories will appear: relationships, spiritual growth, struggles and addictions.  Clicking “relationships” or “spiritual growth” will take you to those pages which are set up with videos and articles just like the “basics of the faith” page.  If you place your cursor over “relationships” three more sub-categories will appear: dating, general relationships, marriage and family.  Clicking any of these categories will open up a page with videos, articles and related resources.

Once again go back to the home page.  When you place your cursor over “resources” a drop down list of the following categories will appear: general resources, Bible resources, video curriculum and stories of faith.  “General resources” includes an exploratory Bible study called “Get to Know Jesus in 21 Days”.  This is a study of the Gospel of John.  Click “get to know Jesus in 21 days”.  The left side of the screen is an overview and provides instructions.  Clicking “The Gospel of John” provides you with the theme, purpose and background.  Go back to the previous page and click “day one”.  The left side is an overview of that chapter and the center screen contains questions for reflection.  Click the link in the gray box, “day one: the story of Jesus”.  This opens up an online translation of the Gospel of John written in the first person.  The “general resources” category also contains a pdf of a prayer journal you can download.

The sub-category “Bible resources” includes the following tools: Bible promises, online Bible, read through the New Testament in a year and read through the Bible in a year.

The sub-category “video curriculum” is made up of topical Bible studies and study guides for individual use or with friends and/or family.

The sub-category “stories of faith” presents true stories of people whose lives have been transformed through their faith in Jesus.

Click on the link below for additional playlists.

So that is how the site works.  As you become comfortable in navigating the site you will discover a wealth of resources.  Also, every four to six weeks more material will be added so make sure to check in often to see what is new.

The most effective way to work through this material is with a friend(s) or family member as you focus on specific areas for growth.  So consider who you might want to partner with on this journey.  You can also email links of the videos, articles, etc. to family and friends to support them in the growth of their faith!

Commit to the process and your life as you know it will be unrecognizable!
